This morning we received a report card on the Barr Family/ SWRI/ Prockter/Roe family/APL thanksgiving... Which turns out to be another fine product from the company knock knock, who makes, among other things, the "more crap" file folders I got for my birthday.
Though we received high marks for "ample toilet paper" and "provisions" it looks like next year will have to include more table dancing and more interesting classical music (the one precpitating the other, no doubt!)

I think the gravy is in some way corn-based. After eating 1 bite of cornmeal-breaded catfish (allergic x 2) the previous night, this was enough to push me over the edge the following morning.
1 1/2 Benadryl quick-dissolve strips later, I was OK. Sort of.
If there are representatives of the Sonic corporation reading this, please don't sue me. This was my own stupid fault.
The verdict: Amy can visit the south, but can't eat anything there.

When you walk in to the office of a physicist and there is a my little pony on the desk, there is always a good story to go with it...
My host at ole miss, marco, had a my little pony prominently displayed in his office, across from the chalkboard covered in integrals and feynman diagrams. So I had to ask.
Apparently Marco, alan stern height, is one of two italians on the faculty -- the other being 6 feet tall-- and referred to as The Italian Stallion... Leaving marco to be known as "like, Italian pony"
One of the secretaries got him a my little pony for Xmas. Outstanding.
Here he is, demonstrating proper hair brushing technique with the little plastic comb. Rock on!

The telescope has the largest and weirdest mount I've ever seen, so of course I had to get up and investigate... In my fancy pants...

Walking to campus today I saw this...
...a suspiciously large telescope dome... I asked one of the grad students what was in there and to my great surprise, she said "an old telescope from the 1890's"
So of course I had to see it...

Turns out that Ole Miss has a fantastic old telescope -- it's like a 19 inch refractor or something that bears a striking reaemblence to a scaled up version of the old UCLA scope at SSP.
